Look for the Interactive logo on the key bow and a dimple cut pattern with a single sidebar groove. The Interactive+ upgrade added a floating ball bearing - if your key has a small circular cut near the tip, you’ve got the Plus version, and we need the matching pin kit.
MT5+: The current high-security standard, recognizable by the double-sided dimple key with the Alpha spring-loaded pin at the tip. These cylinders use a telescopic pin-in-pin design that requires specialized pinning tweezers. We’ve seen MT5+ cylinders in new luxury condos from Tribeca to Long Island City, and in commercial master-key systems where key control is audited.
Classic: The original Mul-T-Lock dimple system, still found in older buildings in Washington Heights and parts of Queens. The Classic key has a simpler dimple pattern and no tip mechanism. Here’s where we’re honest. A Mul-T-Lock cylinder can be removed from most deadbolts with two screws and a flathead screwdriver. If you’re mechanically inclined, you can bring the cylinder to us and save the trip charge.
What goes wrong: the Interactive and MT5+ sidebar springs are under light tension and launch across the room if the plug pulls out at the wrong angle. The telescopic pins stack in a specific order - inner pin, outer pin, spring - and reversing them creates a cylinder that works until it doesn’t, usually at 11 PM.
